Canticle City — The Blight, Kakophoni & The Phoenix Conclave

No Legion fell from a higher pinnacle into a deeper sewer of depravity than the III Legion. Early in the Great Crusade, a sabotage plot by the Selenar gene-cults of Luna infected the III Legion's gene-seed vaults on Terra with a viral cancer ('The Blight'), reducing the entire Legion to just two hundred surviving Marines—yet after saving the Emperor's life from a Proximan assassination betrayal, they were granted the unique right to wear the Emperor's personal Palatine Aquila on their breastplates.

When Fulgrim took command on Chemos and cured the Blight with fresh Primarch DNA (save for a single survivor, Apothecary Fabius Bile, who secretly carried the original genetic cancer for ten thousand years, transferring his mind into fresh clone bodies whenever a body rotted), the III Legion's obsession with perfection turned inward. Corrupted by the Laer Blade on Twenty-Eight Three, Composer Bequa Kynska's 'Maraviglia' concert aboard the 'Pride of the Emperor' birthed the first Noise Marines (Kakophoni), who replaced their jaws and eyes with sonic amplifiers because only warp-screams could stimulate their deadened nerves.

Sub-Factions, Secret Orders & Classified Relics

  • The Phoenix Conclave (Eidolon's Grand Host) — A massive coalition of Emperor's Children warbands led by Lord Commander Eidolon working to reunite the shattered III Legion for Fulgrim's return.
  • The Consortium (Fabius Bile's Apothecarion Cabal) — Rogue Apothecaries from a dozen Traitor Legions studying beneath Fabius Bile to engineer the 'New Men' ('Homo Novus'), a post-human species meant to replace both humanity and Space Marines.
  • The Kakophoni, Flawless Host & Children of Torment — Sonic-cultists who paint their armour in blinding neon pinks, purples, and flayed human skin because normal colours appear grey to their mutated eyes.
