Black Legion

The Vengeful Spirit — Ezekarion, Crimson Path & Sons of Horus Exile

The Black Legion is NOT merely the Sons of Horus painted black. Following the death of Horus Lupercal and the humiliating 'Legion Wars' inside the Eye of Terror—during which the Emperor's Children raided the Sons of Horus fortress of Maeleum on Harmony, stole Horus's corpse, and allowed Fabius Bile to clone the dead Warmaster—Ezekyle Abaddon returned from decades of solitary pilgrimage aboard the 'Vengeful Spirit' to shatter the past forever.

Leading a diverse band of outcasts from multiple Legions (the 'Ezekarion'), Abaddon burned Horus's body, crushed the Horus-clone with the Talon of Horus, whispered 'Horus was weak. Horus was a fool', and ordered every warrior to paint their sea-green plate in the mourning black of brotherhood: 'From shame and shadow recast, in black and gold reborn.' All thirteen of Abaddon's Black Crusades—long mocked by Imperial savants as failures—were in truth a single, ten-thousand-year grand ritual ('The Crimson Path') to systematically destroy the Necron Cadian Pylons holding the Eye of Terror shut.
