Lore & origins

Known in the Aeldari tongue as the Hekatarii, the Wyches are the blood-soaked gladiators of Commorragh's Crucibael arenas and the razor-sharp blades of the Wych Cults. In the lightless depths of the Dark City, where every Drukhari's soul slowly drains into the gullet of Slaanesh, only the visceral agony and terror of living beings can replenish their withering vitality. While the Kabals wage wars of conquest and intrigue, the Wych Cults stage nightmarish gladiatorial spectacles before millions of baying Commorrites, pitting their predominantly female warrior-athletes against captured Space Marines, Tyranid bio-horrors, Ork Warbosses and rival cultists.

To a Wych, killing quickly from afar is the mark of a clumsy amateur; true art lies in dancing within an inch of a foe's blade, dodging every clumsy swing with contemptuous grace, and carving a dozen agonising wounds before delivering a theatrical coup de grâce. Before each battle or arena bout they inject themselves with potent cocktails of hyper-adrenaline, pain-suppressants and reflex-accelerators that push their already superhuman Aeldari speed to a hypnotic blur.

When an Archon launches a realspace raid, the Wych Cults eagerly march alongside the Kabals in exchange for a share of living captives to restock their arenas. During the fracturing of Biel-Tan and the birth of the Ynnari, their greatest champion — Lelith Hesperax, Queen of Knives — and Yvraine herself, once a Succubus of the Crucibael, led whole Wych Cults out of Commorragh to fight for the Whispering God.

Appearance & wargear

Disdaining heavy armour that would slow their acrobatics, Wyches wear supple, asymmetrical bodysuits of reinforced leather and micro-plate that leave one arm or flank bare to flaunt their pale, scar-free skin and tribal Cult tattoos. High collars house combat-drug injectors that pump glowing green and violet stimulants directly into their carotid arteries, while their manes of dyed hair are woven with razor-hooks and trophies. In addition to a Splinter Pistol and a wicked Hekatarii Blade, veteran Wyches wield the sadistic specialist weapons of the arena: Razorflails that shred flesh into ribbons, Hydra Gauntlets bristling with monomolecular claws, and the Shardnet and Impaler, which entangles a victim in electrically charged barbed mesh before skewering them on a twin-pronged spear.

Battlefield role & tactics

Carried into battle clinging to the open gangplanks of Raider skimmers or hurtling through Webway portals, Wyches are close-combat shock troops who excel at tying up and butchering enemy infantry. Vaulting from their transports at full throttle, they flip over bayonet lines and defensive walls to land directly among heavy weapons teams and command squads. Once locked in melee, their lightning reflexes and swirling Pit-weapons make it nearly impossible for surviving enemies to fall back or bring ranged weapons to bear until the last defender has been hamstrung for the slave-ships or carved apart on the spot.

Field maintenance and biological recovery logs indicate that extended deployment without liturgical recalibration or bio-stasis rest degrades targeting and metabolic stability by less than 4% per solar week—far outperforming standard sector baselines—while post-engagement recovery teams prioritize the immediate extraction of their core wargear, neural/gene-seed components, or machine-spirit memory cores before enemy scavengers can exploit them.
